Thesis Soundtrack

What began as a writing exercise with Anne West took a surprisingly circuitous route through the philosophy of perception and ambient electronica. Through the search for music that contained a balance of electronic and traditional instrumentation, a more clarified verbalization of my thesis idea emerged.

Over the course of a week, I worked and reworked a simple playlist in iTunes. Each draft of the mix was burned to a cd so that it could be screened in my car.

The writing process took form on the wall of my apartment, where I tried to make sense of a series of readings on phenomenology and the idea of place.

Cutting, color coding, and physically interacting with the materials have all become important parts of my working process.
